ISLAND SUN - AUGUST 14, 2015
Landing a big fish from the
beach can be hard on the
fish. Dragging a fish up
onto the sand if you’re going
to release it is not an option
as it usually damages or kills
● Hold the fish in the water
while you unhook it if you’re
going to release it.
● The less you can touch a
fish before release the better
for the fish.
● If you want a picture with
the fish, support it as you lift
● Before releasing, revive
the fish while holding it in the
water; moving it slowly back
and forth so water goes over
its gills. The fish will let you
know when it’s ready to swim
● Florida just recently
changed the regulations on
fishing from shore. Florida
residents as well as out of
state visitors need a fishing
license to fish from shore.
