Landing a big fish from the
beach can be hard on the
fish. Dragging a fish up
onto the sand if you’re going
to release it is not an option as
it usually damages or kills the
• Hold the fish in the water
while you unhook it if you’re
going to release it.
• The less you can touch a
fish before release the better
for the fish.
• If you want a picture with
the fish, support it as you lift
• Before releasing, revive
the fish while holding it in the
water; moving it slowly back
and forth so water goes over its
gills. The fish will let you know
when it’s ready to swim off.
• Florida just recently
changed the regulations on
fishing from shore. Florida
residents as well as out of state
visitors need a fishing license
to fish from shore.
