Trash & Treasures Sale will be
back in November. The center is currently
accepting donations of clean, gently
used items. All items are tax deductible.

through Friday between 8 a.m. and 3:30

The featured book for Wednesday,
August 12 is Mystic River by Dennis
Bring your lunch and watch the movie
at 12:30 p.m., followed by a discussion
on the book and movie at 2:30 p.m.
Friday Collage Classes with Bea
Pappas – August 7, 14, 21 and 28,
12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Pappas teaches an
easy approach to collage, both figura-
tive and abstract. Collage can be worked
from torn magazines, found papers like
book pages or handmade papers. Collage
artists: bring a pint of fluid matte pre-
mium, scissors, papers, magazines and
substrates (substrates can be watercolor
paper, canvas, canvas board or mat
board). Members are $15, non-members
are $20. Call the center to sign up.
Sawgrass Mills Shopping –
Wednesday, September 2. Grab a couple
of your friends and do a little pre-holiday
shopping. The trip includes round trip
transportation and coupon book to the
outlet mall. Depart from Fort Myers
location at 7:30 a.m. Seating is limited.

Bridge – Monday and Wednesday at
12:30 p.m. Cost is $2.50 for members
and $5 for non-members. Prizes will be
Mahjongg – Thursday at 12:30 p.m.

Tuesday Kayaking – August 18
(weather permitting) at 8:30 a.m. There
is space for 16 people on eight two-
person kayaks and limited space for
those who own their own kayaks. Island
Seniors will provide kayaks, paddles and
life jackets. Bring water, a small snack,
sun lotion, bug spray, sunglasses, towel,
hat and change of clothing. Cost is $5
for members and $10 for non-members.
Advance registration is required.
Classes are available and all ages are
welcome. Cost is $3.75 for members and
$6.75 for non-members. Annual mem-
bership is $20. Sanibel Recreation Center
members must show their membership
card to attend.
Happy Hour Fitness – Monday,
Wednesday and Friday at 8 a.m. This
class keeps your brain fit and your heart,
lungs and muscles strong with a combina-
tion of aerobics and muscle conditioning
exercises and balance. Hand weights,
stretch cords and your body weight will
be used. Class begins with a joke and
ends with a positive thought for the
day. Athletic footwear required. Silvia
Villanueva is the instructor.
Essential Total Fitness – Monday,
Wednesday and Friday at 9:30 a.m.
Cardio, muscle strengthening and flex-
ibility training with hand weights, stretch
cords, chairs and stability balls. Athletic
footwear required. Mahnaz Bassiri is the
Power Hour Fitness – Tuesday
and Thursday at 8 a.m. Hand weights,
stretch cords, stability balls and mats are
used. Improve core strength and bal-
ance. Athletic footwear required. Mahnaz
Bassiri is the instructor.
Gentle Yoga – Tuesday and
Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Stretch, tone and
strengthen while improving flexibility,
proper alignment and circulation. Mats
are used to meet the needs of varying
experience levels. Bring a towel. Kim
Kouril is the instructor.

The Sanibel CERT (Community
Emergency Response Team) is
looking for volunteers to partici-
pate in upcoming training. The training
will consist of eight aspects of response
to emergencies such as hurricanes, tor-
nados and others. The Sanibel CERT
members are members of the commu-
nity that are willing to help others in a
time of need, when our police officers
and firefighters are busy with other
aspects of a disaster. CERT members
learn first-aid, preparedness and overall
safety. The course will take place over
eight weeks, meeting once a week for
approximately two hours a week.
The course takes place at Sanibel
Fire Station One on Palm Ridge Road,
Wednesday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. The
course starts on September 9 and runs
through November 4. Contact Assistant

Free Play At
At Summit Christian Preschool
at Sanibel Community Church,
children have a choice of artis-
tic activities during free play including
painting, gluing, drawing, clay, cut-
ting and other creative mediums. Each
day, children have at least one hour to
explore art, if they choose. Registration
is open for the upcoming school year.
